How I’m repaying Yoga For Good Foundation’s generosity as a Director
AKA — A First Year as Director: Reflections from Adele Vincent
I joined Yoga For Good (YFG) as a Director
in 2024 because I wanted to help support
the organisation that had helped me so
directly through grants. It was clear to
me that by helping many yoga teachers
deliver yoga programs around Australia,
YFG was making a real impact on the
broader community and especially in
marginalised communities, for which
ordinary yoga classes are inaccessible.
YFG is helping dedicated and passionate
people bring yoga to those in dire need,
such as women and children in domestic
violence shelters, cancer patients and
pain patients, indigenous Australians,
emergency service workers, stricken
farming communities, teens with mental health challenges, children with autism and ADHD, and many others.
My own yoga work has been about service to the greater good since I started teaching yoga in 2017. My kids’ yoga books, which YFG has been instrumental in helping to publish, are very much a project from the heart. The storybooks aim to bring highly specific meridian-based yoga therapy to kids and families to help with anxiety, emotional resilience and (soon-to-be-released) ADHD. I have felt an enormous boost from the support of YFG for my book projects, especially their belief in my first book, which was still just a manuscript and a dream at the time.
Such direct financial and emotional support for yoga passion projects is unique in Australia (and probably, the world) and creates the possibility for many impactful projects to come to fruition that would otherwise not make it in our capitalist economy.
Since I felt completely aligned with the work that YFG was doing and eternally grateful for their support, I offered my time and skills to help ensure that such an altruistic organisation could continue to expand in its mission to do good through yoga. I was also motivated to donate my time because there’s such a direct connection in this organisation between the funds and the people who benefit from them.
I have gladly given my time this year to help with retreat facilitation, teaching classes, writing articles and other aspects of running this fantastic not-for-profit organisation. I had the privilege of helping to read and assess all the inspiring grant applications, and I’m loving hearing about the amazing good that grantees are doing as reports start to come in.
I’ve truly enjoyed working alongside the wonderful YFG team in 2025 and applaud the other Directors, Moira and Tony, on their exceptional work and care. I look forward to the exciting new projects to come in 2026.
